The Race Is On: CONVENTION 2007

Posted on Tue, 10/30/2007 - 7:38pm by ehadaway
When: Sat, Nov 10 at 4:00 pm

Join fellow Democrats as we scream, shout, and get super pumped for the race to 2008. Don't have a candidate? That's great: come and shop for one. At Convention you can learn about the candidates' real positions on issues that matter, such as Iraq, education, health care and more. If you are already a die-hard supporter, then come, jump around and join in the good-natured competitive spirit: complete with a straw poll at the end. Debate the platform. Pick up useful skills like how to write a good political speech, even in the age of sound-bite politics. All this, pizza, and of course guest speaker Bill Purcell, former mayor of Nashville, TN. Who could ask for more?

"One if by land, two if by sea, three if by the Dean's office."

So the Dean's office cut off the party grant, but the Harvard Dems are still where the party's at. Join us as we walk Boston's historic Freedom Trail on Friday -- bring your water bottle and your walking shoes as we view some of Boston's great American historic sites. Paul Revere's house, Fanuel Hall, Quincy Market: it's all part of celebrating what was once written, and what we apparently need again:

"— That whenever any Form of Dean becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it."

Okay, so it really said "Government" and not "Dean." You get the picture. Come walk that ass!

Click here to RSVP. Meet in Thayer Common Room, 4:45 PM.

Niki Tsongas Rally with Bill Clinton!

Posted on Mon, 09/24/2007 - 12:45pm by Mel McGowan
When: Sun, Sep 30 at 11:00 am to Sun, Sep 30 at 8:00 pm

Want to hang out with Bill Clinton this weekend?

Me too. Good thing he's coming to LOWELL, MA to stump for Democratic Candidate for Congress NIKI TSONGAS this SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 30TH!

The Tsongas campaign has invited the Dems to participate in a college canvass in Lowell, starting at noon. We'll leave from the Harvard Square T-Stop around 11 on Sunday morning and then connect to take the Commuter Rail to Lowell. Once we get there, the campaign will pick us up and bring us to their headquarters where lunch will be provided for us. We'll spend four hours or so door-knocking for Tsongas, then the campaign will bring us to the Clinton Rally where, apparently, we will have great seats to hear Bill's speech!

The only money involved will be for your transportation on the T (about $14). Dues-paid members will only have to pay their fare one way, the Dems will subsidize the other half of travel costs.

Come hang out with the dems during reading period and enjoy our favorite series: "West Wing." Our very own John Hawley has graciously pre-screened the series, and selected the cream of the crop for us to watch.

The solidarity demonstration begins at 1:00, and we will hand-deliver a letter from the Dems to President Bok asking him to take action. The Dems' support is vital to the Stand for Security campaign, and it will make a huge difference if we have a lot of people there.

The Dems have also planned a Solidarity Fast to show our support for guards and hunger-striking students: The Dems fast will last 24 hours (midnight Thursday-midnight Friday). To pledge to participate in the solidarity fast, go to http://www.hcs.harvard.edu/slam/petition8
