Sarah Palin

Sarah Palin Continues To Become A Joke Rather Than A Scarily Serious Possibility

Posted on Fri, 11/21/2008 - 12:51pm by Sam Novey

This is amazing. Sarah Palin goes to Turkey Farm to pardon a turkey. Then as she gives an interview, the guy behind goes on to kill a bunch of turkeys in the background. Check out the fun MSNBC has with subtitles.

Palinized!

Posted on Wed, 11/12/2008 - 8:37am by Eva Lam

One week after the election, I'm feeling kind of let down. Sure, we made history and all that, and I still get tears in my eyes every time "A Change Is Gonna Come" rolls around on my iTunes (which is frequently, because I often click on it). But that's small potatoes compared to what we could have had in a McCain-Palin administration:

“But not me personally were those cheers for,” she said to Ms. Van Susteren in an interview shown Monday night on Fox News.

Damn. Anyone remember the Poetry of Rumsfeld? This is clearly the Yoda-influenced Zen of Palin. Suddenly universal health care and world peace don't seem so great anymore.

One-upping CNN

As pointed out by Lena Chen, over at the Crimson, it's all in the timing.

That's a solid hour and twenty minutes before everyone was even done voting. Impressive, if a little cocky.

I also appreciate that the sub-heading in the print version left out the "First-term Illinois Senator" part and just went with "Harvard Law School Graduate". Clearly, HLS is the more relevant part of his resume.

Finally, I know, I know McCain lost and Palin is being shipped back to Alaska where she can be a reasonably safe 5000 miles away from D.C., but I cannot help but pass on this.
(That second Sarah Palin tag was only added because it was already in the tag history and seemed too good NOT to use)

UPDATE: Apparently the Africa thing was a hoax after all. How unfortunate!

Palin's First Amendment jurisprudence

Posted on Fri, 10/31/2008 - 7:29pm by Eva Lam

Sarah Palin, on the greatest threat to civil liberties our generation has ever faced:

If [the media] convince enough voters that that is negative campaigning, for me to call Barack Obama out on his associations, then I don't know what the future of our country would be in terms of First Amendment rights and our ability to ask questions without fear of attacks by the mainstream media.

You see why I'm voting for the law professor?

When Sarah met Science

Posted on Wed, 10/29/2008 - 1:58pm by G. Emre

There's not much more that Sarah Palin could do or say that would shock us anymore.

She's become like that friend you have that gets trashed every weekend. The first time she had to go to UHS, you were horrified. The next time, when you had to come up with the money to bail her out of jail for public drunkenness and aggravated assault, you were surprised but sort of expected it. After awhile and a few dozen bar fights, you're basically numb to any crazy thing she does.

So that's why it might be unnecessary to post this latest scary statement from Sarah Palin:

But at the same time, I have a feeling my science research teacher would track me down and knock me out with a microscope if I didn't address this. Research in fruit flies is the integral first step to a massive number of major scientific discoveries, including advances in the understanding of autism, advances toward discovering treatments for cancer, and advances in our understanding of gene expression.

Also, I'm getting tired of hearing people knock the French. Was it really necessary to cite Paris, France as the place for fruit fly research with that little sneer? Are fruit flies now pretentious and stuck up because they are associated with France? Was that an attempt to discredit fruit fly research as elitist and therefore not research accepted by the real America? Enough already. Let's show the French some love.

Lastly, I spent a majority of my high school hours in a classroom full of fruit flies in test tubes. Those little buggers (no pun intended) hold a special place in my heart.

HA.

Sarah Palin and Spiritual Warfare

Posted on Sat, 10/25/2008 - 9:20pm by Andrew Maher

Ever since she was selected to be the VP nominee at the August, most of us here at Demapples have had a grand old time poking fun of Sarah Palin. I know I have. To be fair, she has been quite an easy target, and I can understand if after a while it seemed like we were piling on. Seeing her say stupid things and wink at America can only be funny for so long before it becomes yesterdays news.

But a recent New York Times article about Ms. Palin's relationship with the Pentecostal Church really caught my attention. And I want to be very careful with this. A person's faith is a very personal thing, and I always try to comment on specific religions only in general terms, so as not to belittle anyone's personal relationship with their god.

That being said, it looks pretty clear that Sarah Palin has had a long relationship with an especially extreme faction of a church that obsesses with battling against demons, witchcraft, and all enemies of Christ. And they like to use tongues.

Normally I would just sit back and chuckle at the idea of people flocking to Alaska because the "end times" are approaching and move on with my day. A politician's church/faith should not be a factor when considering whether or not to vote for them as long as he/she keeps it a non-factor in his/her policies. That's why I'm still voting for Barack Obama despite the apparent lunacy of Jeremiah Wright.

But here's where the Pentecostal Church thing gets a little dicey. The New York Times article explains some disturbing details about her sect:

What is known, however, is that Ms. Palin has had long associations with religious leaders who practice a particularly assertive and urgent brand of Pentecostalism known as “spiritual warfare.”

Its adherents believe that demonic forces can colonize specific geographic areas and individuals, and that “spiritual warriors” must “battle” them to assert God’s control, using prayer and evangelism. The movement’s fixation on demons, its aggressiveness and its leaders’ claims to exalted spiritual authority have troubled even some Pentecostal Christians.

The article then goes on to explain what really troubles me:

Critics say the goal of the spiritual warfare movement is to create a theocracy. Bruce Wilson, a researcher for Talk2Action, a Web site that tracks religious groups, said: “One of the imperatives of the movement is to achieve worldly power, including political control. Then you can more effectively drive out the demons. The ultimate goal is to purify the earth.”

Anytime the word "theocratic" is thrown around, a shiver goes down my back. It's completely unacceptable for a candidate to be associated with a church that encourages its leaders to affect the policy of the state. That's all there is to it. It's wrong. And it's creepy.

So, without further ado, here is a video of an African Pentecostal preacher, famous for driving a witch out of his village in Kenya, praying for Sarah Palin at her church in Wasilla a couple years ago. He is clearly praying for God to help her in her quest to be elected governor. Ugggghhh.

Because When It Comes to Sarah Palin Music Videos, the More the Merrier

On a personal note, my cousin Trish produced and choreographed this video and had some of her friends do the acting and lip-syncing. She has too much time on her hands.

Palin Campaign Clears Palin of Wrongdoing

Posted on Fri, 10/10/2008 - 2:40pm by Eva Lam

I don't know about you, but I've certainly been waiting on tenterhooks for the forthcoming release of the Alaska legislature's report on Sarah Palin's alleged unethical behavior in the "Troopergate" scandal, in which she allegedly fired a police commissioner who refused to fire her ex-brother-in-law, or something like that. But fuzziness on the details is now acceptable, and I no longer intend to read the investigative report, because Sarah Palin has been cleared of any wrongdoing by the most authoritative and neutral source there is: her own campaign.

Trying to head off a potentially embarrassing state ethics report on GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin, campaign officials released their own report Thursday that clears her of any wrongdoing.

Well, thank goodness THAT's been cleared up. Back to your regular moose-hunting, folks.

Update: Apparently some crazy pinko "Special Investigator" who claims to have been "appointed" by the "Alaska legislature" thinks he knows better.

Palin Pollin'

Posted on Fri, 10/10/2008 - 9:36am by Marianne Eagan

Apparently, something is wrong with this poll from PBS because at 10:34 am, the results to the question "Do you think Sarah Palin is qualified to serve as Vice President of the United States?" were exactly split between yes and no.

49% yes
49% no
and
0% didn't know

Am I missing something here?

Take 20 seconds and do your part to set this right.
