Mark Foley

NRCC to spend 1 million to defend Foley's seat

Posted on Thu, 10/12/2006 - 1:23pm by Seth Flaxman

We know the other side sucks at policy, but there's a prevailing belief that they're master tacticians, always out-gunning us on politics. Thankfully, that's not quite correct:

At the same time, GOP strategists signaled they intend to spend nearly $1 million in an attempt to hold the seat recently vacated by Rep. Mark Foley.

That's absurd, but I'm not complaining. Remember, voters who really want to vote for the GOP's annointed candidate will be forced to select Foley's name on the ballot. How many voters are going to be willing to hold their nose and do that? How many Republicans will just stay home out of disgust?

Hastert to Fundraise for my Congressman!

Posted on Mon, 10/09/2006 - 2:20pm by Jarret Zafran

While every other Republican in the country runs away from and denounces Dennis Hastert for his gross mishandling of Mark Foley, sexual predator numero uno, my congressman, Scott Garrett (R-NJ), is having him at a fundraiser in 2 hours. I am speechless. The fact that he thinks he can get away with this is a testament to how little people actually pay attention. There was one article in the paper about his refusal to cancel the fundraiser, but other than that, nobody will know of this gross injustice. I feel the hope draining from me...

Fox News to Foley: We Don't Know You

Posted on Wed, 10/04/2006 - 8:27pm by Cora Currier

Bill O'Reilly delivered the ultimate dis to Mark Foley last night:

He labeled him a democrat!

During the O'Reilly factor on Tuesday the banners on images and video-clips of Foley repeatedly indentified him as Mark Foley- (D-FL).
Coincidence? I think not...

Couldn't have said it better myself

I wanted to highlight a comment on ABCNews regarding the recent revelations that Mark Foley engaged in pre-vote cybersex:

Foley is a sick deviant and, by blaming alcohol, is demeaning alcoholics. There is no excuse that will justify his years of perversion and child abuse. Every member of Congress who was aware of his behavior but took no action should be required to resign.

A query: how is ABCNews uncovering these conversations? I guess pages must now be talking?

Update:

Foley's new admissions, via his lawyer, are that (1) he was molested by a clergyman when he himself was young, (2) that he is in rehab, and (3) that he is gay.

NYT:

“It was not a graceful exit,” said Representative Jeff Flake, Republican of Arizona, as events swirled on Friday.

No shit.

What has happened to the Republicans? The last week of their congressional session was supposed to be a high point -- where they pulled out all their legislative sucker-punches, rope-a-doping the clueless Democrats as they began to roar back towards November victory. The storyline would be the same as always, those intrepid GOP power players regaining their characteristic mojo off the back of national-security issues, and all would be right with the world. You could feel The Note writhing in anticipation.

(Seriously, does anybody still read that garbage? It's become the most vapid, idiotic, senseless repetition of Beltway blather that you can get on the Internet. At least the newspaper pundits put their sycophantism in vaguely serious, intellectual terms -- I swear to God, if Mark Halperin cracks one more joke about the "Daddy Party" or the "Gang of 500", I'm going to find him and kick him in the nuts.)

Anyway. After the jump, we'll see how wrong they were, and how the Republican position has disintegrated.

Just In: Republican Mark Foley Resigns From Fl-16th House Seat!

This might be another pickup for us. We will see how it plays out, but this late in the season it could mean victory for us.

As for Foley, he is one of the foremost critics of child pornography. Apparently, child pornography is bad but not soliticiting children sexually- the reason Foley is resigning is because he sent an email to a 16 year old aide asking inappropriately for his picture!
