A fun, if ultimately meaningless, question.
This is a serious problem for America's poor. Our social safety net is in tatters. (Note, at the link, that food stamps haven't fully covered the cost of the "thrifty" plan since 1996. THANK YOU CENTRISTS! WE LOVE WELFARE REFORM!)
As tired as you may be of hearing about Joe the Plumber, this story serves as a great explanation of why John McCain doesn't get economics.
With all the focus on ground organizing, it's easy to forget that Obama's running a massive air attack as well. If Obama wins, political scientists will probably debate for years which factor was more important.
A smart and tasteful documentary about Crawford, Texas, the town that George Bush appropriated for his Texan mystique. Definitely watch this if you have 90 minutes to spare.
It seems that Sarah Palin can't pass up the chance to put her foot in her mouth. Besides the embarrassing Albright misquote (copied off a Starbucks cup. i mean, seriously, all she had to do was copy and read it word for word off of a STARBUCKS cup), I think its the blatant hypocrisy of the statement that is most frustrating. I guess forcing rape victims to pay for their own rape kits falls under the "supporting women" category for Palin...
"I'm reading on my Starbucks mocha cup, ok? The quote of the day... It was Madeleine Albright, former Secretary of State [crowd boos] and UN ambassador. ... Now she said it, I didn't. She said, 'There's a place in Hell reserved for women who don't support other women.'"
Nate Silver almost always has a good take.
The liberal media goes after John McCain once again for lobbyist ties. Can't they leave him alone? When he was a POW in Vietnam, he didn't have casinos to gamble at.
For a non-economist like me, this article is right at the top end of what I can reasonably understand, and it illuminates a lot of important things about how the government is desperately trying to keep a handle on the value of risky assets (i.e. bad loans). You should read it carefully.
Fivethirtyeight always has an interesting take.
It's always good to see some numbers behind what you already knew.
CampusPundit.com coverage of the DNC Convention, presented by the Harvard Independent and Respectably French!
Elitist vegetable? Or highly delectable? You decide.
Not that it will stop the right wing from pretending otherwise. ("OMG SOCIAL SECURITY IS GOING TO IMPLODE! Better convert everything to private market-based pensions, which will provide a handsome profit for our I-banker friends, immediately!)
