Formerly Mayor of Baltimore (on whom the mayor in The Wire is based), Martin O'Malley was named one of Time Magazine's five best American mayors and secured a drastic reduction in crime in one of the nation's largest cities. He coordinates the Alexandria Process, a religious track complimenting the Middle East peace Process. He’s a regular visitor to Baghdad, where he’s worked with both the political and religious leadership. As the U.S.' Latino immigrant population increases, many public schools across the country face the challenge of teaching students who come from predominantly Spanish-speaking households. Should our public schools adapt by adopting a bilingual sytem of education that incorporates both English and Spanish? Or is complete English immersion best for the children? This debate will be moderated by the distinguished Professor Catherine Snow, Henry Lee Shattuck Professor of Education at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
