(all day)
Start: Saturday, March 24, 2007 - 8:00am
End: 04/01/2007 - 5:00pm
Harvard's on vacation. Nothing's happening. Go away. Stay tuned to the blog, though -- I can't speak for any of our other writers, but I'm going to be in rural Canada and bored as hell, so expect constant updates on my part from the Land of Snow and Cattle.

Location: Somewhere On Campus, Probably Hey! Our executive board meetings are open to anyone who wants to come. We usually don't know where they are until roughly the day before or the day of (this is the product of a longstanding Quad-Mather feud, which MATHER WILL WIN EVENTUALLY), so if for whatever reason you want to check it out email me and I'll give you all the requisite info. Minutes are also a matter of record; I can give you copies of minutes for any board or general meeting going back to November, or possibly earlier if they're filed someplace. (Warning: all minutes from after November are taken by me, which means they're probably very profane and contain no useful information.) Seriously, though, come to the board meeting. Your input would be valued, since groupthink tends to mess up our decision-making process. Also we're bored and we want company. (Get it? "Bored"? Ha ha! I slay myself.)

Location: Emerson 105 Every Monday we meet. Discussions are had. Updates are given. Sometimes, song is broken into. (That's not even a joke, it happens scarily often.) You have to see it to believe it -- the GENERAL MEETING is where all our action goes down. And we're always looking for new friends, so anyone is totally welcome to come by. Don't forget to stick around afterwards for committees, 8:30 to 9:30. You can also feel free to drop in late on any committee. The schedule: 8:30: Events, Communications, Political 9:00: Campaigns, Membership (Locations vary based on the whim of committee chairs, but you can usually find them by following the shrieks of joy.)

Location: Hauser Hall 105 (Law School) Our Dem friends at the Harvard Law School are putting on a series of training sessions for potential young candidates for office. These look like a lot of fun and you should feel free to check them out.
This series of three trainings is designed to help Harvard students think about what it takes to run for office or run a campaign. The first session will provide an overview of the organizational structure of a campaign and give you a better idea of both how to set one up and who is responsible for what. The second will be a series of lightning seminars on the bread and butter parts of a campaign--Message Development; Field; Handling the Press; and Fundraising--that a candidate must understand to be successful. The third will provide a candid look at what it's like running for office and tips young candidates should keep in mind. We will have *free pizza* available at each of the trainings. Please contact Tyler Rosen (trosen@law.harvard.edu) with any questions. RSVPs to Tyler are not necessary but would be appreciated for planning purposes. Training II -- "Lightning tour of Message, Field, Press, and Money" -- with HLS 1L Tyler Rosen Tyler worked as a field director, press secretary and deputy manager on four campaigns and consulted on many more. This training offers more detail on four areas that are essential to a successful campaign, and that a candidate must fully understand to be successful. It's designed to quickly get you up to speed on the concepts and techniques that are fundamental to modern campaigns. This training should also be helpful to students who are looking to work on or manage a campaign following graduation.

Emerson 318 Think you can combine political wit and wisdom as well as Al Franken? Want to follow Barney Frank's lead and rhetorically punch Republicans in the face? Do you still believe in Old Media, but think that it could learn a few lessons from the New? If you've answered 'yes' to any of these questions, we want you to write for The Blue Line, Harvard's progressive quarterly. You can be funny; you can be serious; you can have the sweet satisfaction of seeing your own by-line. You'll have more fun than George Bush on a swing set after he heard Congress was having "recess". The editorial staff of The Blue Line will be having an open meeting for interested writers on Monday, April 9th at 7:15 pm. We'll be discussing our upcoming issue -- a preview of the 2008 primaries. We'll also explain how easy (and rewarding) it is to become a staff writer or an associate editor. We hope to see you there.
