9:00 pm

This Tuesday, on the fourth anniversary of the beginning of the Iraq War, come to a peaceful candlelight vigil to commemorate the lives lost in the war.

Starting Tuesday at 3:00 pm and in the 6 hours leading up to the vigil, members of the Dems and the co-sponsoring organizations (listed here) will read the names of Americans and Iraqis who have died in the war. Names will be read from the steps of Memorial Church in Harvard Yard.

At 9:00 pm, we will gather on the steps for a quiet candlelight vigil as a memorial service to honor and mourn those who have been lost.

Co-Sponsoring Organizations:

Harvard Progressive Jewish Alliance
Harvard Humanist Chaplaincy
Harvard Initiative for Peace and Justice
Radcliffe Union of Students
Harvard South Asian Association
Activate South Asia
South Asian Women's Collective
South Asian Men's Collective
Harvard Secular Society
Harvard Society of Arab Students
Students Taking on Poverty

The vigil, while meant to bring awareness to the tragic consequences of the war, does not take a political stance other than the assumption that the current state and the current course of action cannot go on. The purpose of the vigil is to remember those who have been lost and recognize that things must change, no matter what our personal policy preferences may be. We hope that the Harvard community will join in this act of recognition.

The Harvard College Democrats, while made up of a membership with diverse views on the best course of action to take to remedy the war, nonetheless universally oppose the continued killing of soldiers and civilians and the draining of the national treasury into a war fought on unjustifiable grounds, and demand that our political leaders not rest until a viable solution is proposed.

Location: Pound Hall 100 (Law School) Our Dem friends at the Harvard Law School are putting on a series of training sessions for potential young candidates for office. These look like a lot of fun and you should feel free to check them out.
This series of three trainings is designed to help Harvard students think about what it takes to run for office or run a campaign. The first session will provide an overview of the organizational structure of a campaign and give you a better idea of both how to set one up and who is responsible for what. The second will be a series of lightning seminars on the bread and butter parts of a campaign--Message Development; Field; Handling the Press; and Fundraising--that a candidate must understand to be successful. The third will provide a candid look at what it's like running for office and tips young candidates should keep in mind. We will have *free pizza* available at each of the trainings. Please contact Tyler Rosen (trosen@law.harvard.edu) with any questions. RSVPs to Tyler are not necessary but would be appreciated for planning purposes. Training I -- "Putting a campaign together" This training will provide an overview of the campaign structure, how to set-up a campaign, and who is responsible for what in a campaign. If you don't know the difference between message consultants and communications staffers, or between researchers and policy staff, you should come to this training.
7:30 pm

Harvard's on vacation. Nothing's happening. Go away. Stay tuned to the blog, though -- I can't speak for any of our other writers, but I'm going to be in rural Canada and bored as hell, so expect constant updates on my part from the Land of Snow and Cattle.
