I hope everyone’s summer is going well.
I’m writing with urgent news: the Senate special election in Massachusetts is now startlingly close. According to a poll published in the Wall Street Journal on Monday, progressive Democrat Ed Markey is only polling 1% above his Republican opponent.
The campaign needs your help now. Whether you’re in Cambridge or Hong Kong, there are ways to help:
- Regardless of where you are, if you are registered to vote in Massachusetts then request an absentee ballot. The process is simple and you can print off an absentee ballot request here. Since only 13 days remain until the election, you should do this now if you are planning to vote absentee.
- Currently in Massachusetts? Sign up to knock on doors or make phone calls for Ed. If you’re currently in the Greater Boston area, you can find the full list of volunteering events, and sign up for them, here. If you’re in Massachusetts elsewhere, sign up on the Markey campaign’s website here.
- If none of these apply to you, or if you want to help out either further, consider supporting the campaign by making a contribution online or even writing in support of Ed on Facebook or Twitter. Since the expected turnout for special elections is always low, every vote and dollar goes a long way.
Thank you for your support. And, if you need any additional convincing for why Ed deserves your vote, I encourage you to check out the op-ed that a few of us wrote in support of Markey for The Crimson. Feel free to email me with any questions!
