I have a sinking feeling that the Republicans are clapping because they know how weak and inefficient they can make the Democrats look by blocking and filibustering all these promised pieces of legislation
1) where is all of this $$$$$$ coming from!?
2) nice rhetoric, as always…..but will he actually LEAD on these things and make them happen? or will this be another, “hands-off,, you do it – or not” type thing?
The thing I hate the most is the obligatory standing ovation. People, we all know you aren’t going to support health care reform that your constituents want because it will take away the majority you are vying for in 2012. Don’t mock my and everyone else’s intelligence.
To add to me earlier comment about the McCain/Graham romance, here’s Wonkette: “Why does John McCain have Lindsey Graham’s cock lodged deep in his throat? Oh right, it’s Wednesday.”
Frankly, it may be better than the yelling and whining that has been coming from this room for the past few months. although i’d like a bit of fire and brimstone aimed at a few choice individuals…
I worry that Obama has missed his chance to frame health care reform as a fiscally responsible policy. Certainly, that would require some long-term thinking, but I don’t think it’s impossible.
Awesome graphic idea: take an aerial photo of everyone who stood up and clapped for earmarks, and map over that how much each of them has gotten in earmarks for his or her district.
It may be the case that no one will vote against their own earmarks, but it also seems true that, framed properly, no one will vote against earmark reform.

EDUCATION EDUCATION EDUCATION!!!!!!
thank you barack!!!
WHY ARE THE REPUBLICANS NOT CLAPPING!!!
“Senate will follow the House” – another big phrase of the night.
Race to the Top gets some airtime, but Obama seems to have fallen into the common trap of claiming that everything needs to be reformed.
Public service incentives. I like that!
It’s time for health care reform. DUN DUN DUN.
This may be the first time we’ve hit two pages of comments on the new site – noticing new bugs with the formatting.
You are a nerd. I love you. But still a nerd.
Joe Biden fist-pump count: 1
FINALLY!!!
Oh yes, let’s clear things up!
…and Joe Biden just did a fist pump.
Pretty sure Biden has been giving Obama some grinning lessons.
Apparently Joe Biden, with his fist pump, also could be on “Jersey Shore.”
soooooo

Close up on Olympia Snowe on “closer than ever” to health care reform.
but props:

Ohhh someone’s in trouble tonight!
Barry may be sleeping on the couch…
Guess who isn’t getting any tonight?
Michelle Obama could also tackle the epidemic of childhood weak arms.
Get it, because she has strong arms?
(And there’s a pun in there with “tackle” too)
From Wonkette: ““A high school diploma no longer guarantees a good job.” What about those of us with a middle school diploma? Jobbs?”

hmmmm okay there’s some $$$!
Number of times Eva has watched the LT Dance during this speech: 1
Shout-out to Michelle. Time to unnecessarily link to my favorite video of all time: LT Style Electric Glide. Skip to 0:55.
I’m not satisfied with this health care section. “Let’s get it done” is, unfortunately, not a well-established parliamentary maneuver.
Subtle “Bush did this” comment.
or not-so-subtle.
but still: TRUE!!
to quote “just stating the facts”
John McCain looks more and more like C. Montgomery Burns every day.
Coincidentally, the same is true of John Boehner and Frank Burns.
numbers, i like numbers.

Belt references: 3? I am pretty sure there are at least two “tightening belts,” and definitely one “under my belt.”
Quote from my left:
“Whoa, so much baldness!”
Obama ‘keeping it real’ is so far from this it’s not even funny.
This spending freeze is the dumbest shit of all time. Remember when John McCain offered that as an option during a debate and Obama was all, “uh, no”?
I believe the terminology was “using a hatchet where we need a scalpel.” Still true.
It may be going a bit overboard, but at least he’s waiting until the recession can be magically cured.

let’s be real….everything is a washington gimmick in one way or another
Ugh. not a fan of borrowing ideas from Judd Gregg — Looking forward to replacing him with Paul Hodes

Are Gregg and Conrad the only two Senators actually named so far this speech? Seems a little odd.
This whole thing is awkward.
Is all of this laughter really the right tone for this speech?
No.
I’m pretty sure the answer is no.
But then again, I’m also pretty sure the answer is “Members of Congress are egomaniacal (sp?) idiots.”
Frankly, it may be better than the yelling and whining that has been coming from this room for the past few months. although i’d like a bit of fire and brimstone aimed at a few choice individuals…

Wait – did anyone notice that Joe and Nancy color-coordinated? Oh hey, fashionable Democratic solidarity!
Poor Sonia…. She looks so downtrodden.
ok, now things are REALLY awkward

Gotta say, the supreme court totally deserves that room-full of standing ovation “you suck” applause
This earmark reform stuff will never happen. I don’t care how many of them are standing right now.
Jon Stewart is going to be all over that Supreme Court moment tomorrow.
I’m dreaming of the sarcasm as we speak
Fashion watch, part two…. I believe Sheila Jackson is wearing pom poms on her wrists.
Hidden secret: soon, it will ALWAYS be an election year.
The one time I really wanted to have my computer with me: OH MY GOD IT’S LIKE GROUNDHOG DAY BUT FOR ALL OF CONGRESS
“We have the largest majority in decades” – about time somebody noticed.
