That Orrin Hatch sure is a clever one. This is an actual amendment the Utah senator submitted to the Senate Finance Committee’s health care bill:
Short Title: Add transition relief for the excise tax on high cost insurance plans for any State with a name that begins with the letter “U.”
I repeat, this is an actual amendment drafted by an actual Senator in the current US Senate. The greatest deliberative body on earth, ladies and gentlemen.
That said, if Hatch is so insistent on making a farce out of legislating, the other 49 states might as well get in on the joke. I vote that “Über” be appended to the name of every other state, just to make Orrin Hatch angry. Alternately, the Finance committee could just vote down the bill as if they took their jobs seriously, but that seems like asking too much.
